Need more lives for your next attempt?

On the "continue" screen, go to the far left of the screen. You will find a hidden room containing four additional lives. (see right).

4 extra lives still not enough?

Go to the Hall of Stairs (press UP when the game starts). Walk all the way to the left. When you are behind the stairs, look up to enter a secret door (see top left). 

You should enter Pugsley's Den where there are three one up's and a heart. (see top left).

The same room, has a staircase. Go to the top. On the left side of the heart look up to enter another secret door. (see middle left)

You will enter a room called Behind Stairs. (see middle left)

Look for the room with the training shoes and get them. Then go to the room above it. Jump across the ditch with the door in it int he Hat room to get the hat.(see bottom left) Fly out of that room [through either door].

Very quickly go to the room above it. When you are in the cloak room fly straight up. Now enter the door on the right to enter the 1-Up room and you get your free lives.(see below)
